Welcome

Welcome to ANN, the Annenberg Networks Network. ANN supports a variety of efforts designed to develop social network theory. One key strategy to developing new theory is the exploration of information-based communication networks that are the foundation of a new social form called the network society. Another useful approach takes the form of exploring multiple existing social theories to identify new implications for social networks that accrue from combining multiple theories at multiple levels. And a third technique is to apply a theory developed to explain other phenomena to information and communication networks, as in the case of evolutionary theory. ANN also undertakes empirical research projects to test these network theories. ANN sponsors advanced workshops focused on network theory development as well as a seminar series featuring distinguished network scholars from around the world. Initial financial support for ANN has been provided by the Annenberg School for Communication and the Annenberg Center for Communication, USC. ANN has also received generous technological research assistance from Google, Inc. A number of new Web sites features visual cloud searches. This is a form of "automica network visualization" which generates a rapid visual of the semantic Internet web. Two worth taking a at are Kart00 and TouchGraph.

Kart00 uses flash player and generates a quick visual snapshot. Click on the image to jump open Kart00 in a new browser window.

Kart00

Touch Graph is Java based an will launch a Java applet in your browser window. While Java is required, this is a very powerful visualization tool allowing the user to study networks in Google, Amazon, and even Facebook.
